The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in the next governorship election in Ondo State, Olugbenga Edema has condemned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s appointment of 344 Special Assistants, SAs, and Senior Special Assistants, SSAs, as misplaced.
While emphasizing that Aiyedatiwa’s move was callous, Edema added that appointing such appointments during the present economic slump indicated misdirection on the part of the state’s APC leadership.
On Friday, Aiyedatiwa said that the appointments had been dispersed among the state’s 18 local government areas, 33 local council development areas, LCDAs, and 203 political wards emphasizing that the appointments will improve seamless governance.
However, Oluwatosin Ayeni, spokesperson for the Olugbenga Edema Campaign Organisation, expressed alarm about the appointments, which were made three months before the next elections.
Edema also expressed concern about the financial ramifications of such appointments, which are sponsored by the state, given the current economic climate.
Edema said:
“At a time when the people are grappling with financial difficulties, such appointments represent a gross misdirection of government priorities.
“One can imagine the positive drives that would have occurred in our communities if those resources were channelled towards education, healthcare, or infrastructure instead of being spent on positions that will add zero value to governance and the lives of our people.
“Despite the arguments that government spending should be curtailed, Aiyedatiwa continues to plunder and waste the resources of the state.”
