Adeleke convenes security council meeting over Police, NSCDC clash in Osun

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has expressed astonishment at the open brawl between members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force.

Adeleke asked the two security agencies to carefully follow their standards of conduct during the law enforcement procedure.

Adeleke announced on Saturday in Osogbo, through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, that he has called a meeting of the State Security Council for next week to assess and take action on recent security developments in the state, including an open clash between some police officers and civil defense officials.

The statement added that the Council meeting is to receive briefings from the various security agencies as well as top state officials led by the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, who had intervened in the matter before its current escalation.

On Friday that a clash occurred between personnel of both security agencies on Tuesday, October 22 and Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Elizabeth Estate, Osogbo.

As a result of the clash and subsequent arrest and detention of the NSCDC personnel by the Osun State Police Command, the State Commandant, Michael Adaralewa insisted on a thorough investigation into the matter to bring those found culpable to book.

A statement by Adeleke Kehinde, spokesperson of the Osun NSCDC Command, revealed that the police operatives from Oyo had stormed the Estate which was secured by the NSCDC personnel to arrest some suspected criminals before they were assaulted.
