American-Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has publicly called out the Nigerian police in Abuja for holding his phone since his recent arrest.
The rapper, known for his bold statements, was initially detained earlier this year following allegations of cyberstalking Burna Boy. According to Darlington, despite his release, the police have not returned his phone.
Expressing his frustration, he emphasized that actions like this contribute to Nigeria’s division and instability, describing the country as a “shithole.” Speed Darlington expressed concerns about calling out specific officers, as it might lead to further questioning. He also shared that his lawyer maintains there is no legal basis for the charge of cyberstalking in Nigeria, adding that he hadn’t broken any law against Burna Boy.
In a direct appeal to the authorities, Darlington urged, “Make una give me my phone na,” while warning he could escalate the issue. “I fit change am for una,” he added, referencing his refusal to remain silent if this situation continues. He assured that he would defend himself in court if a criminal case was filed against him, stating his lawyer has confirmed no such crime exists in Nigerian law.
For context, Burna Boy recently filed a cyberstalking complaint against Speed Darlington, resulting in Darlington’s detention by the Inspector General’s Intelligence Response Team in Abuja.
His mother had pleaded with Burna Boy to release her son, whom she believes was unjustly targeted. Darlington was eventually released after meeting bail conditions and later took to Instagram Live to vow he’d make Burna beg for his account number by the end of their feud.
This incident follows Speed Darlington’s earlier remarks about Burna Boy’s connection with American music mogul P. Diddy. Darlington, who previously took a photo with P. Diddy, pointed out how other Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, followed suit and gained international success.
He questioned the timing of Burna Boy’s Grammy win and urged him to reveal how his fame skyrocketed after meeting with P. Diddy.
