The various political parties contesting in the next Ondo State gubernatorial election will sign a Peace Accord on November 8.
The National Peace Committee and the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, coordinated the endeavor to ensure a peaceful election process.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja, stating that the Commission has identified possible flashpoints in Ondo and informed security agencies for effective conflict mapping.
During the fourth quarterly meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Yakubu stated that INEC will undertake a final preparedness assessment next week with stakeholders, officials, security agencies, and transportation providers.
The INEC chairman also stated that the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC) collecting period ended recently, with 64,273 out of 89,777 PVCs distributed—a collection percentage of 71.6%.
He commended CSOs with assisting voters in card collecting and stated that INEC will post cumulative PVC collection numbers per polling unit on its website.
Yakubu was pleased with changes to the voter accreditation and result upload procedures, as well as advances to media and observer accreditations.
