Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for state employees.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
According to Oyelade, the clearance followed suggestions from a technical committee made up of government and labour officials entrusted with implementing the changed wage structure.
The new wage scale will take effect after the committee has completed the necessary adjustments.
He said:
“This new scale will be implemented as soon as the consequential adjustments process is completed by the committee which comprises of Government and Labour top officials.”
Highlighting the state’s employment-friendly image, Oyelade stated that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently named Oyo State the most worker-friendly in Southern Nigeria, noting a considerable fall in unemployment as a result of widespread hiring across multiple industries.
Oyelade also praised Governor Makinde’s ongoing dedication to timely wage payments, noting that workers have gotten their salaries on the 25th of each month since he entered office in 2019.
