Funke Akindele has made history with her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, setting a new record as Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend of all time, grossing an impressive N206 million.
This surpasses her previous record set by A Tribe Called Judah in 2023, which earned N113 million in its opening weekend.
The movie, currently showing in cinemas, has not only broken opening weekend records but has also claimed the title for the biggest opening in 2024, with a remarkable N87.8 million in a single day. On its release day, December 13, Everybody Loves Jenifa achieved the highest one-day performance in Nollywood history, grossing N45.2 million.
The film follows the beloved character Jenifa, played by Funke Akindele, who faces competition from a new neighbor, Lobster (Stan Nze). Lobster, who also runs an NGO, uses it as a front to exploit unsuspecting humanitarian organizations for grants.
In addition to Akindele and Nze, the movie stars a notable ensemble cast including Falz, Omowunmi Dada, Jackie Appiah, Nancy Isime, Destiny Etiko, Chy Nwakanma, Patience Ozokwor, Lateef Adedimeji, Bisola Aiyeola, Chimezie Imo, Jide Kosoko, Ayoola Akinyoola, Michael Uba, Tobi Makinde, Hilda Baci, Wendy Ubakanma, Paschaline Alex, D’banj, Layi Wasabi, and Cute Abiola.
Everybody Loves Jenifa continues to receive rave reviews, and with these record-breaking numbers, it’s clear that the movie is a major hit in Nollywood.
