The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has expressed concern over the widespread prevalence of irregular migration across Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas.

NAPTIP’s Zonal Commander in Edo State, Ganiu Aganran, raised the alarm during a courtesy visit by the Edo State Migration Agency (EDSMA) led by its Director General, Lucky Agazuma, in Benin City.

Aganran noted that human trafficking and illegal migration remain widespread across all states, with Edo State still considered highly endemic.

He called on EDSMA to collaborate with NAPTIP in investigations, arrests, prosecutions, and public awareness campaigns to curb the rising menace.

According to Aganran:

“In Nigeria now, there is no state that is not endemic in trafficking in persons and illegal migration. Even all the local government areas across the country are now endemic in trafficking in person and irregular migration.

“NAPTIP uses five approaches of policy, partnership, protection, prosecution and prevention in tackling trafficking in persons and irregular migration,” he said.
