The sole administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
In a statement on Tuesday, Ibas announced that Worika was selected after a thorough evaluation of his credentials, experience, and performance in the selection process. He described the appointee as a distinguished professional with expertise spanning academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles.
“Professor Worika is uniquely qualified to support the administrator in achieving Mr. President’s mandate for Rivers State. His appointment takes immediate effect,” the statement read.
The appointment marks the first major decision taken by Ibas since assuming office as sole administrator on March 18, 2025. His appointment followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State to restore stability and security.
The administrator emphasized that his administration is committed to leveraging the expertise of qualified individuals like Worika to foster peace and development in Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, who previously served under the suspended governor, tendered his resignation on Tuesday.
