Rivers judiciary denies involvement in alleged judgment against Tinubu, Wike

The Rivers State Judiciary has distanced itself from a widely circulated online report claiming that a State High Court judge issued a ruling against President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in favour of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Rivers State, David Ihua Maduenyi, the judiciary dismissed the report as false and misleading.

The report alleged that Justice Boma Diepiri of the Rivers State High Court had presided over a case in which the court declared the appointment of a sole administrator to govern the state illegal and ordered the official to vacate the Government House. It further claimed the ruling nullified emergency measures said to have been imposed after Fubara’s suspension.

The judiciary clarified that Justice Diepiri is not a judge of the Federal High Court, where such a matter would be heard, but of the Rivers State High Court, and is currently on Easter vacation, which began on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Ihua-Maduenyi criticised the publication, describing it as a product of “crass ignorance,” and stressed the clear distinction between the State High Court and the Federal High Court.

He also confirmed that no judge of the Rivers State High Court has issued any ruling concerning the imposition of emergency rule or the appointment of a sole administrator in the state.

The Chief Registrar expressed concern over the growing trend of online platforms prioritising sensationalism over Judiciary professional ethics and urged the public to verify court-related information through official channels before dissemination.
