A growing number of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members are seeking relocation from Edo State, citing persistent delays in the payment of allowances and inadequate welfare support.
These challenges have prompted corps members in Edo State to request transfers to other states where their welfare needs might be better addressed.
The NYSC has acknowledged the concerns raised by corps members and emphasised that the scheme does not impose any fees for deployment or relocation processes.
All such services are conducted free of charge and are based on individual merit, in line with established policies.
In response to the broader issue of allowance delays, the federal government announced an increase in the monthly stipend for corps members from N33,000 to N77,000, effective from March 2025.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured that the backlog of unpaid allowances would be addressed, although the disbursement may not be immediate.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, reiterated the scheme’s commitment to the welfare of corps members, assuring them that the increased allowance would be implemented as promised.
Despite these assurances, the ongoing delays have led to dissatisfaction among corps members, with some opting to leave their posts in Edo State.
The situation underscores the need for the timely implementation of welfare policies to ensure the well-being and commitment of corps members across the country.
