Russia has commended China for its pivotal role in reshaping the global order, highlighting its efforts to challenge longstanding colonial and neocolonial structures.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made these remarks during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the BRICS Council gathering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lavrov referenced a Chinese proverb, “God forbid you should live in an era of change,” to underscore the significance of the current global dynamics.
He acknowledged China’s influence as a major driver of necessary global change.
Both ministers expressed a shared perspective on the global struggle between nations aiming to maintain a unipolar system, predominantly led by Western powers, and those advocating for a multipolar world order.
Lavrov emphasised that the emerging global framework should be grounded in the principle of sovereign equality among all states, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
He further stated that Russia, alongside China, BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and other allied nations, stands at the forefront of promoting justice and equality on the international stage.
Lavrov highlighted the collective responsibility of these countries to fulfil the objectives set by their leaders.
Also, Lavrov informed Wang Yi about Russia’s preparations for the upcoming official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The visit is scheduled to coincide with the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, commemorating the end of World War II.
