Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has supervised the demolition of two buildings in Benin City believed to have been used for cultism, kidnappings, and ritual activities.

The affected properties, located on Arena Street in Amagba GRA and in the Ogheghe area, were allegedly serving as operational bases for criminal groups.

One of the buildings included a large hall, multiple rooms with mattresses, and office spaces reportedly used for cult-related meetings and activities.

The compound also had a moat, said to be used for initiation rituals, and was equipped with large overhead tanks and an industrial water stand donated by an international affiliate.

Speaking during the demolition, Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s resolve to root out criminal elements across Edo State.

He vowed to continue identifying and tearing down structures linked to illegal activities, declaring that there would be no safe haven for criminals.

The exercise was carried out under the state’s recently passed anti-cultism law, which gives the government the legal backing to demolish buildings associated with cult-related offences.

Okpebholo emphasised that the law would be enforced without bias, warning that no one, regardless of their influence or status, would be shielded from prosecution.

He also announced that the demolished buildings would be converted for public use, including plans to build a police station on one of the sites to strengthen security and restore order in the community.
