The European Union has raised concerns that the United States might be considering pulling out of peace efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas suggested that Washington appears unsure about continuing its role in the mediation process, given the prolonged nature of the conflict.
As a precaution, the EU is reportedly preparing a “Plan B” that would involve continuing sanctions against Russia even without U.S. support, especially if America moves toward reconciling with Moscow.
Kallas emphasised that the EU will not support any deal that recognises Russian control over Crimea and remains committed to backing Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has signalled that President Vladimir Putin is open to peace talks, even as Russian military operations continue.
In a separate move, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced the start of a bridge construction project between Russia and North Korea, strengthening their ties amid reports that hundreds of North Korean fighters have died while assisting Russian forces in Ukraine.
