Nigerian billionaire businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has shared a powerful message for his children following his wife’s recent academic achievement.
The Cubana Group founder proudly announced that his wife, Ebele, had earned a distinction in International Business Management from the University of Surrey, showcasing her intellectual prowess alongside her undeniable beauty.
In a heartfelt post, Obi Cubana praised his wife for her outstanding accomplishment, calling her a “beauty with a brain.” He shared a video from her graduation ceremony, where he also sent a firm warning to his sons, telling them not to perform below their mother’s standards or face his stern discipline. His words were a reminder to his children about the importance of academic excellence.
Do not perform below your mother’s standard, or you will be whooped by me,” he warned in the video. It’s clear that Obi Cubana expects nothing less than the best from his children, especially when it comes to their academic achievements.
This isn’t the first time Obi Cubana has expressed pride in his children’s accomplishments. In 2023, he celebrated his son’s graduation, sharing photos and videos of the event and praising him for making him proud. He declared that the son of an “Odogwu” (a term that means a highly respected person in the Igbo culture) will always carry that legacy.
The following year, he continued to express pride in his son’s success, highlighting how his child bagged an impressive 10 awards. Obi Cubana even rewarded his son with a “super vacation” for his hard work, making sure to show just how much he valued his academic achievements.
It seems academic excellence runs deep in the Cubana family. While his wife was receiving her degree, Obi Cubana himself joined the ranks of doctorate degree holders in Business Administration in 2023 from Enugu State University. In a post on social media, he informed his followers that they should now address him as “Doctor” and thanked the university’s management for their support throughout his academic journey.
Obi Cubana’s journey hasn’t always been smooth. In 2022, he shared a personal story about his own convocation at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where he nearly missed out on celebrating the achievement. He recounted how he and his friends traveled by night bus due to its affordability and, unfortunately, lost a priceless gift from his uncle—something that almost ruined his special day. Despite the challenges, Obi Cubana’s resilience and determination have clearly paid off, as he is now a successful businessman and a proud academic.
