U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly criticised federal judges for blocking his administration’s efforts to deport certain foreign nationals, particularly alleged Venezuelan gang members.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump questioned how judges could prevent the deportation of individuals he described as criminals and murderers.
He warned that such decisions could endanger American citizens and stray from the nation’s foundational values.
The comments followed a ruling by U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr., a Trump appointee, who determined that the government could not use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport suspected gang members unless they were part of an organised and armed force.
This ruling temporarily halted the administration’s move to deport alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang to El Salvador.
Trump’s administration has faced multiple legal challenges over its immigration policies, with courts often blocking deportation or limiting enforcement measures.
The attempted use of the centuries-old Alien Enemies Act has been particularly controversial, raising legal and ethical concerns among scholars and human rights organisations.
Despite the setback, Trump reiterated his administration’s commitment to the deportation of individuals he considers a threat to national security.
