Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has announced the commencement of an investigation into the alleged failure to remit loan deductions taken from civil servants’ salaries by previous administrations.
The governor made the declaration during this year’s May Day celebration held at the Giginya Memorial Stadium in Sokoto. He assured the state’s workers that his administration is committed to transparency and accountability, especially in financial matters that affect their welfare.
According to Governor Aliyu, several workers in the state have complained that loan repayments were deducted from their salaries but were not remitted to the appropriate financial institutions.
The Sokoto governor described this situation as unacceptable and pledged to ensure that those found responsible for the mismanagement or diversion of these funds would be held accountable.
The governor also directed the state’s Head of Service and other relevant agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and provide a comprehensive report.
The Sokoto governor promised that his government would not tolerate any form of corruption or injustice against workers, particularly concerning their hard-earned income.
In addition to launching the investigation, Governor Aliyu used the May Day platform to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare in Sokoto State.
He highlighted some of the achievements of his government, including the prompt payment of salaries, promotion of workers, and plans to enhance the working conditions of civil servants.
The announcement by the Sokoto governor was met with applause from workers who attended the event, many of whom expressed hope that the governor’s actions would bring lasting reforms to the state’s civil service and restore trust between workers and government institutions.
