In a tragic incident on May 7, 2025, suspected Fulani gunmen killed Chief Tony Adejo, the district head of Odugbeho in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack occurred around 10:00 a.m. while Chief Adejo was working on his farm.
A source close to the community, Mr. Edo Seidu, confirmed the incident, stating that the assailants took the monarch’s mobile phone and other personal items.
Calls made to the phone later confirmed his death. Seidu, who had spoken with Chief Adejo the previous day and had an appointment to meet him, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the monarch as a man who respected everyone, regardless of their background.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents mourning the loss of a leader who was known for his commitment to peace and development.
As of the time of reporting, efforts to obtain a statement from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over security in Benue State, where attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen have been on the rise. The state has witnessed several such attacks in recent months by gunmen, leading to the loss of lives and property.
