The Labour Party (LP) has indefinitely suspended Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and four other prominent members over alleged anti-party.
The decision, announced on May 7, 2025, follows the submission of a report by a five-member disciplinary committee established by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on May 2.
According to a statement signed by LP National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the suspended members include Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi. The suspension takes immediate effect, barring them from participating in any party activities.
The disciplinary committee, led by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, was tasked with investigating allegations of anti-party conduct. After reviewing the committee’s findings, the NEC ratified the recommendation to suspend the six members.
Labour Party has notified relevant institutions, including the Nigeria Governors Forum, the National Assembly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies, of the suspensions.
In the same statement, the LP addressed the case of Nenadi Usman, clarifying that she is not a party member and therefore not subject to its disciplinary measures.
The party criticised Usman for her alleged corruption cases and challenged her to disclose details of her plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The LP also reiterated its stance against forming coalitions or mergers, stating that those advocating for such arrangements lack the capacity and integrity to manage them.
Labour Party emphasised its commitment to maintaining financial transparency, noting that its audited accounts have been published and commended by INEC.
