Kwankwaso labels political defection as ultimate betrayal

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has condemned political defection, describing it as the “greatest political sin” in a democratic system.

Speaking in Kano on Friday during the reception of new NNPP members from Takai Local Government Area, Kwankwaso criticized politicians who switch parties after benefiting from the electorate’s support. He emphasised that such actions represent a profound betrayal of the voters’ trust.

Kwankwaso highlighted the resilience of the Kwankwasiyya movement, stating that it is driven by a commitment to uplifting the common man rather than monetary inducements. He noted that the movement’s strength lies in its grassroots support and dedication to social justice.

Kwankwaso warned that undermining the Kwankwasiyya movement is a grave mistake, asserting that it is a “solid wall” that cannot be easily shaken. Kwankwaso urged his supporters to remain steadfast and continue mobilising grassroots support across communities.

The remarks come amid recent defections from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), including prominent figures such as Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila and Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum. Kwankwaso’s comments underscore the NNPP’s stance against political opportunism and its commitment to maintaining integrity within its ranks.
