The Presidency has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to religious impartiality and fostering national cohesion.
The declaration came on Sunday as the Nigerian leader arrived at the Vatican to attend the inaugural Mass marking the commencement of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate.
In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Sunday Dare, emphasised that Tinubu maintains an equitable approach toward all religious communities in the country.
“President Tinubu governs a diverse, multi-religious nation and remains steadfastly impartial. His guiding principle remains: though we may differ in tribe, language, or faith, we stand united as one nation,” Dare stated.
The presidential aide highlighted that Tinubu’s visit to the Holy See, accompanied by four prominent Nigerian clerics, underscores his inclusive leadership style and unwavering commitment to representing all citizens without prejudice.
“President Tinubu is resolute in serving every Nigerian equally. His presence at the Vatican alongside senior religious leaders clearly reflects this commitment,” Dare added.
The statement serves to reinforce the administration’s position on religious harmony amid Nigeria’s complex socio-cultural landscape. It also aligns with Tinubu’s previous assurances of upholding constitutional guarantees of religious freedom while promoting national unity.
The President’s participation in the Vatican ceremony marks another diplomatic engagement demonstrating Nigeria’s interfaith relations on the global stage.
Observers note the symbolic significance of the visit, coming at a time when the administration faces scrutiny over religious representation in governance.
Dare’s remarks seek to reassure citizens of the government’s dedication to balanced leadership while encouraging national solidarity across religious divides.
The Presidency maintains that all policy decisions and appointments continue to be made based on competence and national interest rather than faith considerations.
