Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State have expressed strong confidence that they will soon end the long-standing dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state’s upcoming November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election.
During a Thanksgiving Mass held in Onitsha for Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the APC governorship candidate, party stalwarts encouraged residents to stay hopeful and prepared for a political change in the state.
The state APC Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, criticised the current APGA administration under Governor Chukwuma Soludo. He accused the ruling party of using the legacy of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu to win votes without fulfilling campaign promises. Ejidike stressed that the APC is focused on reconnecting Anambra to a revitalised agenda aimed at meaningful development.
Engr. John Bosco Onunkwo, Chairman of the APC Reconciliation Committee, highlighted the strength of the Ukachukwu-Ekwunife ticket, describing it as a united and capable alliance ready to lead Anambra effectively. Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, National Coordinator of the Ikemba Front, shared this optimism, expressing confidence that their efforts would boost the APC’s chances in the election.
Chief Felix Unigwe addressed rumours about President Bola Tinubu’s alleged endorsement of Governor Soludo. He clarified that although Tinubu referred to Soludo as a friend and thinker during a recent visit, no formal endorsement was made.
The APC’s renewed activity in Anambra follows several defections from APGA, including prominent figures like Hilary Udeano, a former local government chairman, who joined the APC along with around 2,000 supporters. These developments suggest a possible shift in Anambra’s political landscape, with the APC aiming to capitalise on perceived weaknesses in the current administration and position itself as a strong alternative for governance.
