The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally invited former presidential candidate Peter Obi to rejoin the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was made during a meeting of the State Executive Committee held in Awka on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Chidi Chidebe, the PDP acknowledged Obi’s significant contributions to the party and expressed a desire to reconcile and reunite with him.
The statement emphasised that alliances with ideologically incompatible political formations, such as the Labour Party, may not yield the desired success. The party extended an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members, particularly Obi, to return and join the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP.
Peter Obi left the PDP for the Labour Party in 2022, citing challenges within the PDP as obstacles to his presidential ambitions.
Since then, he has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, attracting considerable support from different segments of the population.
The PDP’s invitation to Obi comes at a time when the party is keen to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party leaders believe that Obi’s return could enhance their electoral prospects and present a more united front in the upcoming political contest.
As the 2027 elections approach, Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift, with parties reevaluating alliances and strategies to improve their chances.
The PDP’s call for Obi’s return reflects its efforts to consolidate support and offer a strong challenge in the forthcoming elections.
