Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the formation of a state-level Drug Control Committee to tackle the growing problem of drug abuse in the state.
The committee will be chaired by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta and is intended to complement the efforts of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in combating drug-related issues.
The announcement was made during a special church service held at the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries in Yola, which was organised to honour the outgoing NDLEA Commandant for Adamawa State, Samson Agboalu.
Representing Governor Fintiri, Professor Farauta reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a drug-free society. She emphasised the importance of collective action, education, and community involvement, stating that “we must train our children to take over leadership from us as good citizens.”
In his remarks, the outgoing NDLEA Commandant, Samson Agboalu, acknowledged the positive contributions of the newly established Drug Control Committee.
He also highlighted the strategic placement of the Ngurore-Numan checkpoint, which has helped reduce both robbery and drug trafficking activities in the state. These measures reflect the state government’s proactive approach to addressing the complex challenges posed by drug abuse.
The formation of the committee aligns with Governor Fintiri’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse in Adamawa. The governor has previously partnered with organisations such as Jeje Riders Nigeria and the NDLEA to run awareness campaigns targeting school-age youths.
