Buhari remains loyal to APC, won’t oppose Tinubu in 2027 – Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu, former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has dismissed speculation that his principal supports moves to unseat President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

The clarification comes amid growing political discussions following a recent meeting between Buhari and prominent opposition figures at his Kaduna residence.

The visit, which included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, had sparked rumours of a possible coalition against Tinubu.

However, El-Rufai had earlier stated that the meeting was not politically motivated. Despite this, some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remain suspicious, linking the gathering to 2027 election plans.

In an interview with Arise News, Shehu firmly rejected any suggestion that Buhari would work against Tinubu or the APC. “No, not at all,” he stated.

“President Buhari’s position was and still is that he’s an APC person. The APC did him the biggest favour of his life by making him president for two terms. He is not going to betray that party.”

Shehu emphasised Buhari’s gratitude to the party and his commitment to its success, noting that Tinubu played a crucial role in Buhari’s eventual electoral victory after three previous attempts.

“President Buhari ran for office three times and didn’t win until they came together with Tinubu and all the others, and they won,” Garba Shehu recalled.

The former presidential aide urged the public to disregard rumours of division, stressing that Buhari remains a loyal party member who supports the current administration.
