A member of the Yobe State House of Assembly has expressed deep concern over the recent surge in terrorist attacks across the state, calling for urgent action to address the worsening security situation.
The lawmaker, Hon. Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim, whose constituency has been heavily affected by insurgent activities, warned that the continuous violence is displacing communities, disrupting livelihoods, and creating fear among residents.
During a plenary session, the legislator highlighted several recent incidents where armed groups targeted villages, resulting in loss of lives, kidnappings, and destruction of property.
The lawmaker urged both state and federal authorities to intensify military operations and improve intelligence-gathering efforts to curb the escalating threats. Additionally, the call was made for increased support to victims of these attacks, including displaced families who have lost their homes and means of survival.
The lawmaker further emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities to enhance vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities. Community leaders and traditional rulers were also encouraged to work closely with security forces to prevent further attacks.
In response to these concerns, the Yobe State government assured residents that measures were being taken to reinforce security operations in vulnerable areas. The state reiterated its commitment to working with federal security forces to restore peace and stability.
Meanwhile, residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any security threats from terrorist organisations to the nearest authorities. The rising insecurity has raised fears of a possible humanitarian crisis if immediate action is not taken.
