Abia state Gov. seeks increased federal allocation for development projects

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has formally requested the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to review upward the state’s share of federal revenue, arguing that enhanced funding would accelerate development initiatives across the state.

The governor made this appeal on Sunday during a meeting with Mrs. Nkechi Otti, the federal commissioner representing Abia State at RMAFC, at the Government House in Umuahia.

Governor Otti emphasised that additional financial resources from the federation account would enable his administration to execute critical infrastructure and social development projects more efficiently.

He referenced a recent Debt Management Office (DMO) report that commended Abia State’s prudent financial management as evidence of the state’s capacity to judiciously utilise increased allocations.

“We would greatly appreciate any intervention that could lead to improved federal revenue allocation for our state,” Governor Otti stated.

“With numerous development priorities before us, additional funding would significantly enhance our delivery capacity. Our track record of fiscal responsibility, as acknowledged by the DMO, demonstrates our readiness to effectively deploy such resources.”

The governor assured the RMAFC delegation of his review of their report, noting his administration’s commitment to transparency in financial matters.

Mrs. Otti, in her remarks, explained that her visit formed part of her familiarisation tour since assuming office months ago, emphasising the importance of direct engagement with state stakeholders to better understand their fiscal needs and challenges.

This appeal comes as Abia State implements various infrastructure projects under Governor Otti’s administration, with the state government seeking additional funding streams to complement its internally generated revenue and fulfil its development agenda.
