Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially inaugurated the governing councils for five state-owned tertiary institutions, marking a significant step in strengthening educational administration across the state.

The ceremony, held on Friday in Ibadan, was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Adebo Ogundoyin, and the Chief Judge of Oyo State, represented by Justice K.A. Adedokun. Also present were former deputy governors, legislative leaders, and other dignitaries.

The newly inaugurated governing councils will oversee The Polytechnic Ibadan, Michael Koleoso Polytechnic (formerly Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki), Oyo State College of Agriculture in Igboora, Oyo State College of Education in Lanlate, and Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Governor Makinde also signed into law the renaming of Oke Ogun Polytechnic to honour the late Michael Koleoso, a notable figure in the state.

The appointed council chairmen include Professor Lanre Nassar (The Polytechnic Ibadan), Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan (Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology), Comrade Olusegun Oyewumi (Oyo State College of Education), Dr. Amusan Damilare Gideon (Oyo State College of Agriculture), and Dr. Bisi Ojebola (Michael Koleoso Polytechnic). Other council members were also sworn in during the event.

Governor Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving the quality of education in state-owned institutions, pledging continued support to ensure academic excellence.

He emphasised the importance of strong governance in tertiary institutions to enhance learning standards and infrastructure development. The move aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to reposition Oyo State as a hub for quality higher education in Nigeria.
