The Abia State Police Command has successfully raided and destroyed several criminal camps operating along the Uturu/Isuikwuato axis, leading to the arrest of four suspected armed robbers.

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the operation followed reports of repeated robberies targeting students of Abia State University (ABSU) and residents in the area.

On July 16, 2025, at approximately 3:49 PM, the Uturu Divisional Police Headquarters received multiple complaints about a criminal gang terrorising the university community.

Police officers, working in collaboration with vigilant residents under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, tracked down the suspects’ hideout. The arrested individuals were identified as Jerry Chisom, Tochukwu Ugula, Chinonso Nwankwo, and Kingsley Onyekeba.

During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered several items from the suspects, including a locally made pistol, a knife, an iPhone 7 Plus, an Infinix phone, and a laptop computer.

These exhibits are believed to have been stolen from victims during previous criminal operations. The police statement confirmed that additional criminal camps in the area have been identified and dismantled as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate unlawful activities in the region.

The Abia State Police Command, through Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security in the state, particularly around educational institutions. Residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities through the Command’s emergency contact numbers.

The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of community-police collaboration in combating crime and ensuring public safety in Abia State. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
