The Federal Government, acting through the Ministry of Education, has firmly dismissed rumours suggesting the cancellation of the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
The clarification was issued in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, on Sunday in Abuja.
Mrs. Boriowo emphasised the need to address the false information circulating and reassured the public that the Ministry had no such plans.
She described the rumours as baseless and misleading, designed to create unnecessary panic among students, parents, and stakeholders in the education sector.
According to her, the 2025 WAEC examinations have already been successfully conducted, with only minor cases of malpractice reported. These incidents, she noted, were swiftly handled by the appropriate authorities to maintain the integrity of the examination process.
She further clarified that the Ministry had not received any official complaints or reports from WAEC, NECO, or any other examination body regarding widespread malpractice that would warrant the cancellation of the exams.
The Director urged the public to disregard the false claims and rely only on verified sources for accurate information. She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the credibility and smooth conduct of all national examinations, adding that collaboration with examination bodies would continue to enhance monitoring and enforcement measures.
The Ministry of Education also warned that individuals found spreading false information would be reported to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution. The Ministry remains dedicated to upholding transparency and trust in Nigeria’s education system.
