John Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, has expressed strong disapproval of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s recent derogatory comments about other contestants.

Nwosu described the governor’s remarks as unbecoming of a leader and indicative of his growing anxiety over his political future.

Governor Soludo, while addressing supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at a rally in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, allegedly referred to some opponents as “street urchins” incapable of governing a state that has produced prominent individuals.

He was also quoted as stating that any candidate promising to serve a single term in adherence to the state’s zoning arrangement needed psychiatric evaluation.

Nwosu, reacting to these statements, criticised Soludo for resorting to name-calling and stereotyping instead of addressing his administration’s shortcomings.

He remarked, “It is deeply concerning that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has resorted to labelling his political challengers in such a demeaning manner, even suggesting they require psychiatric evaluation. Such remarks reveal his growing fear that his time in office may be limited to a single term due to his poor performance.”

The ADC candidate emphasised that some contenders, including himself, had pledged to serve only one term in honour of Anambra’s zoning agreement, describing it as an act of statesmanship, integrity, and respect for regional equity.

John Nwosu further noted that he was the only candidate who had sworn a public affidavit committing to a single term, a move he said demonstrated his dedication to fairness and the rule of law.

He urged Soludo to focus on addressing his administration’s failures rather than attacking opponents. “Instead of hurling insults at those offering Anambra a better alternative, Governor Soludo should explain why his promises remain unfulfilled,” Nwosu stated.

Mocking the governor’s recent remarks, John Nwosu added, “Indeed, ‘passing six is not passing sense.’ Anambra deserves e-governance, not Soludo’s archaic approach.”

The ADC candidate’s response highlights the escalating tensions in the lead-up to the election as contenders challenge Soludo’s leadership and governance style.
