Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the appointment of retired Colonel Yahaya Gambo as the new coordinator of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, in an official statement released on Thursday.

According to the statement, the appointment aims to enhance the effectiveness of the CJTF in maintaining security operations against insurgency and consolidating peace across the state. Gambo, a native of Kaga Local Government Area, brings extensive military and security experience to the role, including expertise in conflict resolution and disaster management.

The retired colonel previously served as Chief of Staff at the Intelligence Support Command in Lagos before taking up the position of Chief Security Officer at Dangote Fertiliser Limited in 2018. In his new capacity, Gambo will oversee CJTF operations under the supervision of the Ministry of Information and Internal Security.

The appointment comes as part of Borno State’s continued efforts to strengthen security structures and sustain counterinsurgency gains. The CJTF, a local vigilante group formed in 2013, has played a crucial role in supporting military operations against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Northeast Nigeria.

Governor Zulum’s administration has emphasised the importance of professionalising the CJTF while integrating it into the state’s broader security framework. The selection of an experienced military officer as coordinator reflects this strategic approach to maintaining stability in the region.
