The Delta State Sports Commission (DSSC) has constituted an eight-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) to ensure a successful hosting of the 9th National Youth Games scheduled for August in Asaba.

DSSC Chairman Onoriode Oborevwori announced the committee’s formation as part of Delta’s commitment to maintaining its reputation as Nigeria’s leading sports destination.

Oborevwori will chair the LOC, with former Sports Commissioner Chief Solomon Ogba serving as adviser. The committee includes notable sports personalities such as ex-Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje, current DSSC board members Oghale Ofremu and Henrietta Ehiabor, former Director General Festus Ohwojero, and Paul Omamomo-Ojo as members. Emuobo Igalase, the commission’s functional Director General, will serve as secretary.

The DSSC chairman emphasised Delta’s proven track record in hosting major sporting events, referencing the successful organisation of the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships and the 21st National Sports Festival in 2022.

He stated the committee’s mandate includes delivering world-class facilities and flawless execution to showcase Delta’s leadership in grassroots sports development.

With contingents expected from across Nigeria, the LOC has been tasked with ensuring the youth games meet international standards, further cementing Delta’s position as Nigeria’s premier sports hub. The Sports Commission expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to organise a memorable event that would continue the state’s legacy of excellence in sports administration and talent development.
