The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in partnership with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), has deported a further 51 foreign nationals who were convicted of cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

This latest group, which included 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian, were repatriated after completing their various jail terms in the country. This action brings the total number of convicted foreigners deported to 102 since the operation began.

The individuals were part of a larger group of 192 foreign nationals arrested in Lagos during a coordinated sting operation.

The raid was the result of months of actionable intelligence and uncovered one of the largest foreign-led cybercrime syndicates ever discovered in Nigeria. Investigations found the syndicate was involved in extensive internet fraud, cyber-terrorism networks, and financial scams that targeted both Nigerian citizens and international victims.

The group was also connected to sophisticated identity theft operations and illicit online financial transfers that caused millions of dollars in global losses.

The EFCC stated this deportation exercise is a key part of a wider effort to cleanse Nigeria of foreign criminal networks that exploit its digital and financial systems.

The Commission emphasised that such organised foreign groups threaten national security and damage Nigeria’s reputation in the global digital economy. Immigration officials confirmed that more deportations are expected in the coming days to completely dismantle the network and prevent the perpetrators from re-entering.

With over 90 foreigners still awaiting deportation, this operation underscores Nigeria’s renewed determination to clean up its digital space and reinforce its commitment to global cybersecurity standards.
