The Nollywood community is mourning the loss of veteran actor Fabian Adibe, who was widely celebrated for his role in the classic television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart.”
Mr. Adibe passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in the early hours of Wednesday, August 20.
His death was confirmed by journalist and movie producer Seun Oloketuyi in a social media post. The actor had recently celebrated his 81st birthday in December of the previous year.
Adibe’s distinguished career in the arts began long before his on-screen debut. He notably led Nigeria’s delegation to its first Commonwealth Arts Festival in 1965. He later launched his acting career in 1987 with the ground-breaking series “Things Fall Apart.”
In the production, he portrayed the character Ogbuefi Uzowulu, performing alongside Nollywood legend Pete Edochie. He was admired for his calm demeanour and powerful performances, which left a lasting impression and endeared him to generations of Nigerian viewers.
Fabian Adibe’s passing marks the loss of a significant and respected figure in the history of Nigerian television and culture.
