The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has publicly confirmed that Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra based in Finland, is currently undergoing prosecution.

General Musa made this significant disclosure during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Thursday. He stated that Ekpa’s arrest has already contributed to noticeable improvements in security conditions throughout Nigeria’s South East region.

General Musa expressed optimism about the ongoing legal process, suggesting that Ekpa might face repatriation as part of his prosecution.

He noted that many people had initially doubted the government’s seriousness in pursuing the case, but the arrest has demonstrated their commitment to restoring peace in the region.

The Defence Chief emphasised that the military and security agencies remain determined to pursue all individuals who instigate violence anywhere in the country, regardless of their location.

He reaffirmed the government’s position that those who threaten national security will be held accountable, stating that authorities will continue to pursue such individuals wherever they might be located.

General Musa also described recent operations against Ansaru terrorists as a significant victory for the nation’s security forces. He assured the public that ongoing efforts continue to neutralise other violent groups operating within the country, underscoring the military’s commitment to maintaining national security and stability.

The prosecution of Ekpa represents a crucial development in addressing the security challenges that have affected the South East region in recent times.
