Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State have apprehended a 29-year-old man, Adamu Yusuf, for allegedly transporting a substantial quantity of illicit pharmaceuticals, including tramadol.
The suspect was intercepted on Saturday, August 23, 2025, by officers attached to the Kiru Area Command during a routine patrol along the Zaria-Kano Road, specifically at the Kwanar Dangora area. Yusuf was travelling from Lagos at the time of his arrest.
A thorough search of his vehicle led to the discovery of 7,000 capsules of Tramadol, a controlled painkiller frequently abused as a recreational drug. The total weight of the seized capsules was 4.1 kilograms.
In an attempt to avoid detection, the suspect had concealed the large consignment of drugs inside a 20-litre jerrycan that originally contained cooking oil.
In an official statement released on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq M. Maigatari, the Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, praised the operatives involved for their exceptional diligence and professionalism, which led to the successful interception.
The commander also extended gratitude to the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), for his unwavering support and provision of necessary resources that enhance the agency’s operational effectiveness across the country.
The arrest underscores the agency’s sustained efforts to combat the trafficking of illicit substances and disrupt distribution networks that target communities within Kano State.
The command has reiterated its call for continued public cooperation, urging citizens to provide timely and useful information that could assist in the fight against drug peddling and related criminal activities.
