The Jigawa State Government has officially announced that Wednesday, August 27, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday. This work-free day is declared in celebration of the state’s thirty-fourth anniversary, commemorating its creation in 1991.
The announcement was formally made in a statement issued by the State Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri.
The statement, which was disseminated to the public on Tuesday by Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, the Public Relations Officer for the Office of the Head of Service, extended the government’s heartfelt congratulations to all the citizens of Jigawa.
The government seized the occasion to call upon the people to use the day for reflection and prayer, specifically to offer supplications for the continued progress and stability of the state and for the nation of Nigeria as a whole.
Furthermore, the government expressed its hope that public servants and the entire populace would use the opportunity presented by the one-day break to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for the numerous blessings bestowed upon the state.
The statement also highlighted the importance of thanking God for the enduring peace and harmonious coexistence that the people of Jigawa currently enjoy.
The state was created on August 27, 1991, during the administration of the former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, when it was carved out of the old Kano State. This annual holiday serves as a reminder of the state’s history and a celebration of its collective journey.
