The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday throughout Nigeria.

This holiday is in observance of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The announcement was formally made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in a statement released on Tuesday from the capital city of Abuja.

The statement conveyed the sentiments of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended his heartfelt congratulations and warm wishes to the Muslim community both within Nigeria and around the globe on this significant occasion.

In his message, the Minister called upon the Muslim Ummah to use this period of reflection to embody the profound virtues demonstrated by the Holy Prophet.

He specifically highlighted the importance of emulating his teachings of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion for one another. Dr. Tunji-Ojo stressed that embracing these core values is absolutely essential for fostering a harmonious, united, and progressively developing nation.

The statement further emphasised that the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid presents a valuable opportunity for all citizens.

It is a time to reinforce the bonds of brotherhood, actively promote peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse communities, and deeply absorb the Prophet’s timeless lessons on mutual respect and the importance of selfless service to all of humanity.

The government encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly and peacefully.
