Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the completion of the final voter registration process for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.
The commission provided this update following its weekly meeting, detailing the results of the exercise which was conducted across all 326 wards in the state from July 8th to July 20th, 2025.
According to a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 168,187 citizens initially registered as new voters.
However, following a thorough cleaning of the register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), the commission discovered and removed 27,817 invalid records. These were identified as double or multiple registrations.
Consequently, the final number of valid new registrants now stands at 140,370. In addition, the commission processed 5,983 valid applications for transfers into the state, bringing the total number of new voters added to the roll to 146,353.
Prior to this exercise, Anambra State had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the inclusion of the new valid registrations, the state’s voter roll now totals 2,802,790.
The distribution of voters by Local Government Area shows Idemili North with the highest number of voters at 246,318, followed by Awka South with 216,611 and Ogbaru with 188,016.
Conversely, Dunukofia and Anambra West have the smallest voter populations with 83,580 and 71,332 registered voters respectively. INEC has assured the public that all Permanent Voter Cards for the new registrants will be ready for collection well ahead of the election.
