Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory in response to the declaration of an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In an official statement released on Saturday, the agency confirmed that while no cases have been detected within Nigeria, it is actively monitoring the situation to ensure a state of heightened vigilance and preparedness.

The NCDC has called on members of the public to adopt and maintain strong preventive measures to mitigate any potential risk of transmission.

These measures include practising regular hand hygiene by washing hands thoroughly with soap under running water, avoiding direct contact with anyone displaying symptoms consistent with Ebola—such as high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding—and refraining from the consumption of bushmeat. The agency also emphasized the importance of ensuring that all animal products are properly cooked before consumption.

Healthcare workers have been specifically advised to maintain strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols. This includes the consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when caring for patients to minimise any risk of exposure.

The NCDC also urged individuals who have recently travelled to affected areas and who begin to experience any relevant symptoms to immediately contact the national emergency hotline at 6232 or to get in touch with their respective State Ministry of Health without delay. The full detailed advisory remains accessible to the public on the NCDC’s official website. The center reassures the public that it remains committed to safeguarding the nation’s health and will provide timely updates as the situation evolves.
