A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, Dele Momodu, has declared that the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been critically weakened and placed in an “Intensive Care Unit” by infiltrators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Momodu made these allegations during a television appearance, explaining that this situation was a primary reason for his recent resignation from the PDP.
The veteran journalist stated that agents of the APC have completely hijacked the PDP, creating what he described as a political anomaly. He claimed that these individuals insist on remaining within the opposition party while actively working for the interests of the ruling party.
Dele Momodu emphasised that disagreeing with this untenable position led him to take the honourable step of resigning rather than remaining complicit.
As both a politician and a journalist, Momodu said he is closely monitoring events within the PDP. He expressed a strong belief that the party will be unable to rescue itself from the influence of these APC agents, a conviction that solidified his decision to leave.
He reflected on his own political trajectory, including his 2011 presidential run on a different platform, to underscore his commitment to principled political engagement.
Dele Momodu concluded with a stark metaphor, suggesting that some forces are not aiming to kill the PDP outright but are deliberately keeping it in a critically weakened state like a patient in ICU for their own purposes. He lamented that these actors are using the party as a strategic tool, which he characterised as a shameful state of affairs for Nigerian politics.
