A violent attack by armed bandits on commercial vehicles in Sokoto State’s Rabah Local Government Area has left seven passengers with varying degrees of injury.

The incident occurred on the evening of September 10 at approximately 8:00 pm when a large group of militants armed with AK-47 rifles blocked the road between Kogoho Lambar Tofa and Kogogo Rijiya villages within the Rabah District.

According to security sources, the assailants targeted three commercial vehicles transporting passengers returning from Achida Market to Rabah town.

The bandits opened fire on the vehicles in an attempted hijacking, but the drivers demonstrated remarkable courage by refusing to stop and successfully manoeuvring their way to safety. Despite their escape, seven passengers sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.

Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident through a social media post, providing detailed accounts from local sources.

Following the attack, troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA were promptly deployed to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in an intense firefight. The security forces ultimately repelled the attackers, who retreated with possible bullet wounds.

The injured victims were immediately transported to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) for emergency medical treatment.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and continues a pattern of violent attacks on transportation routes in northwestern Nigeria, where bandit activity remains a persistent threat to civilian safety and mobility.
