President Muhammad Buhari will flag a third oil field in Northern Nigeria on Wednesday. This was contained in an official announcement on Monday by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The field is located at Ebenyi at the Headquarters of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The flag-off is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

It is the second oil field in the North Central region. The first was the Ibaji oil field in Kogi State.

In the history of Nigerian exploration, the Ebenyi field is the third field in Northern Nigeria. The first was Kolomani located on the Bauchi/Gombe axis.

On January 15, 1956, Nigeria discovered its first commercial-scale crude oil in Oloibiri, a community in the Niger Delta.
