Abia State is stepping up its efforts to increase rice production, with the government making it clear that only genuine farmers will benefit from agricultural support initiatives.
Governor Alex Otti’s administration announced that it has put mechanisms in place to verify the authenticity of farmers applying for government support such as grants and inputs.
The move is aimed at ensuring that limited agricultural resources are directed toward individuals who are genuinely involved in farming and not to impostors.
The verification process will involve thorough screening to prevent people who are not actively cultivating land from accessing government aid.
Governor Otti also urged local governments and communities to align with the state’s agricultural development agenda.
He stressed that agriculture plays a critical role in achieving food sufficiency and economic growth in the state.
He called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the initiatives designed to enhance local food production and reduce reliance on external sources.
The state’s renewed agricultural drive is part of a broader economic diversification strategy aimed at fostering self-sufficiency and building resilience.
Abia’s focus on supporting real farmers reflects a commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective implementation of development programs.
Officials believe that this approach will increase rice production and help Abia become a leading contributor to Nigeria’s food security.
