The governor of Abia State has said that governmental officials who did not go through the verification process would not be paid beginning in November 2023.
This was said by Okey Kanu, the commissioner for information and culture, on Monday in Umuahia while briefing media on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
He stated that all interested civil workers should have used the State government’s two-week extension time to finish the verification.
Kanu emphases that people who were unable to undergo verification might still approach the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to inquire as to why they had not been confirmed.
The commissioner also stated that the 197 private schools in the state that were recently shuttered may be reinstated provided they follow the State government’s norms and standards.
He said that the shuttered private schools were confronted with deplorable circumstances and low-quality teaching staff.
He added that the state government will soon implement a whistleblower policy.
Betty Emeka-Obasi, Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties to Abia State Governor, said the names of the unverified workers have been posted and asked the workers to approach the heads of their MDAs.
