ABSU’s management has confirmed the kidnapping of Professor Godwin Emezue, the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
Dr Acho Elendu, ABSU Registrar, verified it to newsmen and termed it as extremely regrettable.
He stated that details concerning the event was still hazy, but that it took happened in his community.
Meanwhile, it was learned that the DVC was abducted at a filling station at Umuekwule, Amachara, Umuahia South Local Government Area, where he had gone to purchased petrol.
He was said to be with his wife when the event happened.
According to eyewitnesses, Prof Emezue was snatched away by three guys who approached him at the petrol station, forced him into an already waiting Lexus SUV and took his wife’s ATM card.
The wife was cited as stating that her husband’s abductors rushed off and raced towards the Imo-Abia border, heading for the Malaysian market.
Attempts to contact the police for confirmation were unsuccessful since Moureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, did not return calls.
Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, the Commissioner of Police, likewise did not answer calls.
