Nollywood actor Jide Awobona recently called out popular film director and screenwriter Abiodun Jimoh, also known as Abey Jomo, for subjecting him to an intense transformation regimen for his lead role in the upcoming movie “Inspector Jero.”

The actor, who has been placed on a strict diet to fit the character’s requirements, shared his experience on social media, expressing shock and seeking help.

In a screenshot of his chat with the director, Jide revealed the stringent dietary rules imposed upon him. Abey Jomo instructed him to fast and avoid eating until sunset, abstain from drinking until 7 p.m., and only consume a slice of watermelon in the morning. The goal was to give Jide a sunken-eyed, hungry look suitable for his character. The bewildered actor took to Instagram to voice his distress, questioning the director’s harsh demands for the sake of a movie role.

Help Help Help,” Jide wrote. “Because I decided to make a film, see what Abiodun Jimoh did to me. Check the slides. WHAT HAVE I DONE TO YOU @abeyjomo.”

Despite Jide’s complaints, many fans and colleagues applauded Abey Jomo for his commitment to authenticity in filmmaking. Fellow actors and industry professionals commended both Jide and the director for their dedication to the craft.

Mustapha Sholagbade commented,

That’s the spirit mate, keep it burning. @abeyjomo thank you for always.”

Mo Bimpe added, “I almost didn’t recognize Murasi o.”

Bakare Zainab expressed her support, “Well done Jide. So glad we made this together.”

Moyo Lawal praised Jide’s commitment, saying, “Actor. I love it.”

Paschaline Alex also commented, “Actor.”

Another user, Certified Eyinjueledumare, highlighted the director’s attention to detail, stating,

Abey Jomo is a very detailed director when given the time and authority as it should be.”

The comments section was filled with admiration for the lengths Jide went to bring his character to life. Seyi Akinsola noted,

What actors do to bring joy to people.”

Jide’s transformation echoes a similar commitment shown by actress Bukunmi Oluwasina, who shaved her hair and went on a diet for a challenging role. In her ten years as an actor, Bukunmi described this role as the most demanding and breathtaking she had ever played, yet she was proud of her ability to embrace it fully.

Jide Awobona’s dedication to his craft has been evident in his career. Last year, he expressed joy after overcoming a significant fear, sharing photos from a hospital bed and reflecting on his personal growth. Additionally, Jide has been vocal about industry issues, recently defending his colleague Adanma Luke amidst controversy. He pointed out that unfortunate incidents can happen to anyone in Nollywood and highlighted the unfair labels actors receive when they refuse to comply with certain demands.
