Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has addressed allegations of abandoning the late Jumoke Aderounmu, following her brother’s public criticism.
The controversy arose after Jumoke’s demise, with her brother accusing Funke of insincerity in mourning her when she allegedly ignored her during her final days.
In a candid Instagram Live session, Funke shared her side of the story, revealing her own struggles with loss and adversity, including the recent loss of her mother, marriage, and political challenges. She refuted the claim of abandonment, stating that she had reached out to inquire about Jumoke’s well-being while she was alive.
Funke explained that she had contacted Jumoke’s colleague, Jide Awobona, who informed her that Jumoke was seeking job opportunities. Expressing hurt over the accusations, Funke disclosed that she had messaged Jumoke’s brother but received no response, and nobody had informed her of Jumoke’s illness.
The actress also addressed recent criticisms, emphasizing the need for kindness in interactions and urging respect for personal boundaries. Her response comes amidst earlier indirect reactions to the accusations, where she shared a post about prioritizing her energy.
Despite the controversy, Funke Akindele recently garnered praise for her generosity, as she offered to cover the educational expenses of a TikToker, Honeymoon, who questioned the importance of school.
