Hudi Yunusa-Ari, the suspended Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, did not appear in court on Monday.

The State High Court’s Justice Benjamin Manji ordered the suspected INEC REC to appear in court on November 23, 2023.

The police failed to serve Yunusa-Ari with the hearing notice.

The prosecution counsel to INEC, Justice Rotimi Jacobs, said that police made multiple efforts to serve him the hearing notice by visiting his residence, but he could not be found.

The presiding judge, Benjamin Manji, approved the prosecution’s plea for the defendant to appear in court for two weeks, questioning why the police, who had given him release through a guarantee, were unable to obtain either the defendant or the surety.

The INEC has been given permission by the Federal High Court in Abuja to prosecute Yunusa-Ari, who is being charged on six counts related to his involvement in the state’s 2023 gubernatorial election.
