The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 1 has directed a comprehensive security operation in Kano and Jigawa states to ensure peace and safety during the upcoming festive season. The directive aims to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order as residents prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
In a recent briefing, the AIG emphasised the need for proactive and coordinated efforts among security agencies to address potential threats in the two states. The security strategy involves increased patrols, intelligence gathering, and rapid response units positioned at strategic locations. Officers are expected to work closely with community leaders and local vigilante groups to detect and prevent crime before it occurs.
The AIG specifically instructed commanders to enforce strict security measures in vulnerable areas prone to communal clashes, armed robbery, and kidnapping. This includes enhanced surveillance and checkpoints on major roads to monitor suspicious movements and intercept illegal weapons.
Authorities are also focusing on crowd control during public gatherings and religious events to prevent stampedes or violence. Police personnel have been urged to maintain professionalism and respect human rights while carrying out their duties.
Residents have been encouraged to cooperate with security forces by reporting any suspicious activities and avoiding actions that could escalate tensions. The AIG reassured the public that the police are committed to safeguarding lives and properties and ensuring a peaceful environment for all during the holiday period.
